Obooga gets gloriously stuck.

He reads the beginning aloud, reaches the blank part, and turns to the only person who can rescue the story.

“What kind of ship should it be?”

A hardcover they actually authored.

The complete digital book is free to read, hear, and share. If it’s a keeper, their exact story can become a printed hardcover, with their name on the cover and their ideas on every page.

Why parents feel good about it

Not just personalized.
Actually authored.

Plenty of lovely books can print your child’s name inside a story someone else wrote. Obooga starts before the story even exists.

A personalized book

  • Their name appears in a finished story
  • The plot is the same in every copy
  • Your child is the star

An Obooga book

  • Their decisions change what happens
  • No two books turn out alike
  • Your child is the author

We call it a child-authored book. The byline reads “Written by your kid, with Obooga.” And it’s the truth.

Why the getting-stuck works

Obooga’s stuckness isn’t a gimmick. It’s the whole design. When a lovable expert runs out of ideas, the child becomes the capable one in the room: the namer of ships, the inventor of creatures, the one who knows what happens next.

That role reversal is inspired by dialogic reading, the well-studied practice of pausing a story and letting the child tell it. Obooga simply makes the pause irresistible, and writes down what your kid says.

“Kids never feel quizzed. They feel like the smart one. Because here, they are.”

Made for kids.
Answerable to parents.

  • No child accounts. Kids just play. If anyone signs up for anything, it’s you.
  • No ads. No strangers. Nothing on Obooga talks to your kid except Obooga.
  • Minimal data. A first name for the story, and your email only if you choose to save. That’s the list.
  • A bounded world. Every story world is human-written; your child steers within it. Anything typed passes moderation before it enters the story.

The short version

What is a child-authored book?

A storybook where the child makes the creative decisions that shape the plot: naming characters, choosing paths, inventing twists. Their name isn’t just inserted into a story someone else wrote. Every Obooga book is child-authored, and the byline says so because it’s true.

How long does a story take?

About 20 minutes for one complete adventure. The story moves at your child’s pace. Every page waits for them, and you can save progress and come back.

Does my kid need to be able to read?

No. Obooga narrates every page out loud, with the words highlighted as he reads. Early readers can follow along; confident readers can turn the sound off.

What does my child actually decide?

Real plot decisions: which ship to take, what the creature looks like, what the twist is, what the book is called. Their words are woven into the story text and read back to them.

What's in the hardcover?

Their exact finished story: the same pages, art, choices, and title as the digital book, printed as a hardcover with their name on the cover. The digital book stays free either way.

How does Obooga use AI? Does it write the stories?

No. AI doesn’t write the stories. Every story is hand-authored: every page of narrative, every choice your child is offered, every illustration, and every line of character audio was created or reviewed by a human before launch. Your child moves through that pre-approved world. AI is used only at a few narrow, carefully guarded moments: smoothing your child’s own words into a sentence, speaking their first name aloud, and drawing the one picture they describe themselves. Everything a child types passes through multiple layers of moderation first. If an AI service is ever unavailable, the story simply carries on with its pre-written material.

What do you collect about my child?

A first name (so the story can say it) and the story choices themselves. No child accounts, no ads, no messaging. A parent email is collected only if you choose to save progress.
