Effective July 2026 · Obooga (obooga.com)
Obooga is built for children, so we collect as little as possible and we'll always tell you plainly what we do with it.
A first name (so the story can say it) and the story choices themselves. That's the list. No child accounts, no ads, no messaging, no tracking across other sites. Everything a child types passes through multiple layers of moderation, which also block personal information like last names, schools, and addresses from entering a story.
Email (optional): only if you choose to save your child's books to a library shelf. Used for your shelf link and messages about your own books — never sold, never shared for marketing.
Order details (only if you buy a hardcover): your name, shipping address, and email, used solely to print, ship, and support your order. Payments are processed by Stripe — we never see or store card numbers. Your shipping details are shared with our print partner (Lulu Press) for the sole purpose of printing and delivering your book.
Every story is hand-authored by humans. AI is used only at narrow, guarded moments — fitting your child's own words into a sentence, speaking their first name aloud, and drawing the one picture they describe — and everything a child types is moderated first. Nothing your child writes is used to train AI models.
Finished books that are never saved to a shelf are permanently deleted 30 days after creation. Saved books that go unopened for 11 months trigger a reminder email; at 12 months unopened they are permanently deleted. You can permanently delete any book yourself, at any time, from your library shelf — deletion is immediate and complete, including its pictures and share link. Order records are kept as required for accounting and warranty purposes.
Book links use long, unguessable addresses, are excluded from search engines, and can only ever be read — a shared link can never be used to claim, change, or delete a book.
Only the services that make Obooga work: Stripe (payments), Lulu Press (printing and shipping), our hosting provider, and the AI providers described above (which receive only moderated story text, never names or contact details attached to it). We never sell personal information.
We use Google Analytics to understand, in aggregate, how people find Obooga and use it — things like which page brought you here, whether a story was started or finished, and whether a hardcover order was completed. We configure it conservatively: no advertising features, no cross-site or cross-device identity signals, no user IDs, and no names, emails, or story content in what's measured. Analytics data is retained for the shortest period Google offers and is never connected to your email or your child's book.
Delete any book from your shelf at any time. Ask us to delete your email and shelf entirely, or to show you what we have, by writing to support@obooga.com. We answer personally.
